Parti diagrams - what to focus on

a great start to the session with some great thinking and discussion happening in studio.

I wanted to clarify what to focus on with your parti diagram analysis. During studio, we discussed the villas with individual groups and looked at some reference documents. We explored different aspects of spatial organisation that can be analysed with parti diagrams.

As you move forward with your parti diagram analysis, focus on uncovering one or more partis from the set of three partis shown by Xing in the lecture. These three partis (room corridor, matrix of interconnected rooms, and courtyard) are specific ways of organzing occupation inside the house. Examine to what extent these three different principles apply to your villa, ie, are the rooms joined by a corrider, or do rooms flow into one another, or are they organised around a central courtyard, or does your villa contain aspects of all three organisational principles?

Bring your parti diagram analysis to studio on Wednesday and we will present each villa to the group. Please also have your photocopied plans and sections,(your resource drawings from books, not your own drawings,) in order to present the villa.
